ZZZZZZZZ,
I’m so sleepy right now and I really want to skip doing anything to my hair. What I need to do is spritz the ends of my hair with water, saturate my hair with coconut oil, and then tie a baggie over my ends to seal in the moisture. My ends are where I seem to have the most issues. My ends can get very dry and tangled so I have promised myself that I would take better care of them. But I’m feeling so lazy right now.
But just in case you are wondering….
The Benefit of Saturating My Hair In Coconut Oil
Simply put coconut oil is the bomb. Have you seen how beautiful and strong Indian women’s hair is? I don’t know if it is completely because of coconut oil but I know it is a big part of it. Coconut oil has many benefits for the hair (as well as the body). Here is why I use coconut oil…
1) It makes my hair strong
2) It makes my hair so shiny, which is not always easy as a natural.
3) It makes my hair soft
4) It makes my hair smooth
Coconut oil also does some things to the hair that are less tangible. It penetrates the shaft of the hair because it is a straight chain glyceride. Because straight chain glycerides are able to go directly into the hair shaft, it is able to directly benefit the hair with its nutrients such as lauric acid, capric acid, and vitamin E. Not only that but coconut oil also has been used as a natural way to get rid of dandruff.
I’m sure you can see why I am in love with coconut oil. And right in the middle of writing this post, I decided to get up:
1) Spray my hair with lots of water so I could get some moisture into my hair.
2) Then I drenched my hair with coconut oil paying particular attention to the ends because that is my main problem area right now.
This is the coconut oil I’m using btw:
Coconut Oil – Extra Virgin 32 oz
3) Then I just barely combed the coconut through my hair just to make sure it was evenly distributed.
4) Then I gathered my hair into a loose sloppy ponytail secured with an elastic….
5) Then I put a sandwich bag over the afro pony/ ponytail…
6) And secureed the sandwich bag with an elastic. The sandwich bag or baggie method has the same idea of when you use a plastic cap to deep condition your hair under heat. Your body’s temp is higher at night and so your hair is being conditioned and moisture is being sealed into your hair during the night. Eventually, if you keep doing this on a consistent basis, your ends should start to become less frizzy, less tangled, and less dry. Which is why I decided to get over my laziness b/c the benefits of the coconut oil were too good to pass up.
In the morning I plan on doing a half hearted caramel treatment followed by a washing and deep conditioning so stay tuned.
